Demonstrations were performances of song and prayer by children as part of the proceedings of annual Salvation Army Congresses. Newspaper reports indicate these demonstrations were performed by hundreds of children at a time, with one Sydney Congress reported to have over 600 children demonstrating. This lot includes 12 pieces relating to demonstrations as part of the Sydney Congress, being: 1. Young People’s Demonstration, Sydney Town Hall, May 26th, 1917; 2. Programme Young People’s Rally, Town Hall, Sydney, 29th May, 1922; 3 & 4. Programme Congress Young People’s Demonstration, April 21st, 1924 (2 copies); 5. Grand Y. P. Demonstration Congress, 1927 Souvenir Programme; 6. Congress 1930 – Y. P. Demonstration Songs (Rehearsal Notes); 7. 1930 Congress Grand Display by Young People Souvenir Programme; 8. Pieces are mostly in Good Condition with only minor wear, some pushing toward Fair being the 1927 programme repaired with tape, 1930 rehearsals notes with some splitting at folds and soiling, 1937 programme with a closed tear to the middle fold, and the 1949 rehearsal notes with an 8cm closed cut to the top right corner. The 1917 sheet is in Poor Condition, split into two pieces with heavy chipping to the edges. A few of the rehearsal notes and programmes have annotations. Good Condition. -
