First Edition.
31cm x 25cm. 80 pages, colour illustrations. Blue cloth, white lettering and illustration, illustrated jacket.
Monograph of Japanese artist Sadao Hasegawa (1945-1999). “He has been called Japan’s Tom of Finland because of his celebratory stance towards male homosex, much symbolic emphasis on male-male eroticism and Japan-style sado-masochism. But the similarity ends there. His work is a riot of bright optimistic colour and his symbolisms go deep into the myth and legend of the non-Western world.” (from cover blurb)
Minor shelf wear, slightly cocked. Some foxing and soiling, mostly to first and last few leaves. Previous owner’s name. Foxing to jacket verso. Good Condition. -
Fanzini Goes to the Movies
John Jack Baylin
Vancouver: John Jack Baylin, 1974.
The third issue Fanzini. A short run Canadian queer zine totalling five issues published between 1972 and 1975. “Fanzini was produced by John Jack Baylin, originally as a fauz (or not-so-faux) fanzine to John Dowd, a handsome New York leatherman with a physique reminiscent of a ‘Tom of Finland’ character. Dowd himself provided many of the collages that appear in Fanzini, especially the earlier issues: They tend to combine Walt Disney characters and leathermen. .. Fanzini Goes to the Movies includes contributions by Ray Johnson, Vince Aletti, Peter Hujar, and General Idea. We see that the editor has now made connections to New York’s more radical gay scene of the time, not the gay liberation set, but the intellectual hedonists of the witching hour. The classic FETISH border appears for the first time.” (Queer Zines, Volume One) -

A World of Nudes
Roy Dean
Los Angeles: Rho-Delta Press, 1975.
Male nudes by English-American photographer, actor, stage designer, director, and writer Roy Dean (1925-2002). Born Leslie Joseph, son of English actress Hermione Gingold, during the early 1970s Dean turned increasingly to photography with a focus on the nude physique of LA’s male bodybuilders. During the 1980s Dean’s work brought the male nude to the eyes of the masses. This earlier work, A World of Nudes, has a more niche appeal. The stylish black and white photographs a fine presentation of physique photography. The earlier photographs in this work bearing resemblance to Tomatsu Yato’s Otoko, also published by Rho-Delta three years prior. -

Complete Set of David McDiarmid’s ACON AIDS Awareness Safe Sex / Injecting Posters
David McDiarmid
: ACON (AIDS Council of New South Wales), 1992.
A complete set of the original AIDS Council of New South Wales safe sex and safe injecting posters featuring artwork commissioned from David McDiarmid (1952-1995). “For people of a certain disposition and a certain age, David McDiarmid’s ACON posters were part of our exploration of sexuality and identity amidst the HIV/AIDS crisis during the 1990s. The large multicoloured muscular naked male bodies with symbols, acronyms and names scrawled across each limb: positives and negatives of grief/lust/fear/care provided a new language for a community to own its public health concerns, and a troubling and appealing depiction of much of our felt ambivalence surrounding sexuality. They, along with his massive and elaborate Mardi Gras floats, were the backdrops to the AIDS vigils of the 1990s; an intense time of shuddering grief and defiant sexual pride.” (Margaret Mayhew, Artllink Issue 34:3) Full list of posters: 1. Some of us get out of it, some of us don’t. All of us fuck with condoms – every time!; 2. HIV, discrimination and grief threaten our community, Build our strength, stay together and support each other; 3. Some of us have HIV, some of us don’t. All of us fuck with condoms – every time!; 4. Some of us inject, some of us don’t. Always use clean needles – every time!; 5. Some of us are in love, some of us are in lust. All of us fuck with condoms – every time! -
